Southport Special Entertainment Precinct

This consultation has concluded.

The final submission report is now available.

The City is inviting you to have your say on the proposed Southport Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP).

Southport is home to a growing cluster of live music venues. Under the Gold Coast Music Action Plan, we have a vision for Southport to become a live music hub. A vibrant destination where locals can see world class artists.

To enable this, we are proposing the introduction of a SEP in two appropriately designated areas of Southport. This will help attract and retain live music venues with noise managed by Council under a new regulatory framework. Planning controls will ensure a vibrant and safe entertainment precinct with music venues and residential areas designed to be compatible.

The creation of a successful SEP in Southport requires amendments to the Southport PDA Development Scheme, amendment to Local Law No.16 (Licensing) 2008 and the creation of a new Subordinate Local Law No.16.9 (Amplified Music Venues) proposed below. Subsequent City Plan amendments will identify the SEP consistent with the Southport PDA Development Scheme.

For further information on the proposed Southport SEP, review the following documents:

* A marked-up version of Schedule 1 of the proposed new SLL that was inadvertently omitted from the version presented to Council on 12 October 2021 is available for you to view and download. The marked-up version contains identified necessary amendments identified following Council resolution. The corrective amendments are consistent with resolved proposed amendments to the Southport PDA Development Scheme.
