Greenmount Headland Revitalisation

We are on track to deliver the revitalisation of the Greenmount Headland walkway and viewing areas from mid-2027.

Many of the existing paths and platforms are reaching their end of life and need to be renewed. These structures will be replaced with more durable, low-maintenance materials better suited to the coastal environment. Your feedback along the way has been incorporated into the updated design.

Have your say: help us plan for construction

To deliver the works safely and efficiently, the headland walkway will be closed during construction.

We want your input to help us plan for and minimise disruptions during this period. Tell us how you use the path, what concerns you might have and what we can do to make the closure easier for you. To have your say, complete the Planning for Construction Survey. If you want to know more, you can also ask the project team a question.

Designing the new walkway

During our previous engagement in 2024, we heard strong and consistent feedback about protecting the character of the headland, improving safety and making the area more accessible. Read more about what we heard during consultation in the Community Engagement Summary.

Here's how we used your feedback to shape the final design.

You said - We did

  • Avoid overdevelopment – The design incorporates boardwalk sections to reduce concrete and maintain an uncluttered feel.
  • Reflect the natural environment – Durable, low-maintenance materials, such as Accoya timber decking will be used to better suit the coastal environment.
  • Improve safety – subtle design features and an adjusted layout have been incorporated to slow movement and improve safety. Cyclists must still dismount.
  • Improve accessibility – the design includes more consistent widths and gentler gradients so more people can access the walkway more easily.
  • Prioritise the views – the design features more functional viewing areas to maintain access to the views people love.
  • Reflect community preferences in the design – you voted for your preferred design options which have been included in the final design.
