Greenmount Headland Revitalisation

We are in the process of planning for the revitalisation of the iconic Greenmount Headland.

Many of the structures at Greenmount Headland are getting older and are requiring extensive ongoing maintenance. In light of this, the City has started a revitalisation process to replace the existing concrete walkway and timber viewing platforms around the headland with more resilient materials. This aims to reduce maintenance and allow the community to continue enjoying these spaces, safely and without disruption.

The headland is rich with natural beauty and our design aims to enhance and celebrate this with a raised boardwalk made from natural timber that complements the surrounds, whilst protecting the areas beneath. Accessible viewing and seating areas will allow opportunities for our whole community to take in the views and observe the surf.

The revitalisation of these important community assets will ensure a more enjoyable and accessible space for everyone, while also making sure the spaces are resilient in the future.

Community feedback

From 12 November - 3 December 2024, we sought comments and feedback from the community on our draft concept plan both face-to-face and online. We achieved:

  • Over 630 survey responses
  • Over 5,600 total page visits
  • 28 ideas posted to our ideas board
  • 3 pop-up sessions on the Rainbow Bay Foreshore, that resulted in over 360 conversations with people in the community
  • Targeted discussions with key stakeholders

What you told us

The following provides an overview of the key feedback received through recent engagement (see 'How are we taking on board feedback received?' or the community engagement summary report for more information):

  • A preference for natural materials, specifically less concrete.
  • A desire to protect the existing environment.
  • A desire to improve safety around the headland.
  • A desire to keep the design low maintenance.
  • A preference to not 'overdo' the design, and to keep it in line with the existing character.
  • To enforce cyclists, e-bikes and e-scooters to dismount on the Headland.
  • A desire to improve overall accessibility for our whole community.
  • To create places to comfortably enjoy the stunning views.
