Hinterland Gateway Community Hub

We're planning the Hinterland Gateway Community Hub (The Hub), a modern, high-quality, multi-purpose facility that will bring together recreation, arts and community services in one vibrant, connected location.

This project will enhance and revitalise the Nerang area, delivering a welcoming and accessible hub that supports community connection and wellbeing.

As Nerang’s population continues to grow, this drives increased demand for modern, accessible community spaces that foster participation and connection.

Facilities under consideration include a:

  • Multi-purpose hall
  • Meeting and/or function rooms with kitchen facilities
  • Evacuation centre for use in emergencies
  • Community service spaces
  • New library
  • Café
  • City Customer Service centre
  • Councillor offices for Division 5 (Cr Peter Young) and Division 8 (Cr Robert La Castra).

Designed for flexibility, the proposed precinct can host everything from community meetings and cultural events to learning activities, offering something for everyone and accommodating a wide range of local activities.

The project reflects our commitment to investing in high-quality community infrastructure that supports wellbeing and social connection, ensuring Nerang continues to thrive as a dynamic and inclusive community.

Community consultation undertaken in 2023 and 2025 provided valuable feedback that is helping guide planning for the Hinterland Gateway Community Hub. 

Council resolved in July 2025 to sell the former Nerang Administration precinct site and use generated funds to design and deliver the proposed Hinterland Gateway Hub.

The former Nerang Administration precinct will be transformed into a $300 million mixed-use neighbourhood and community hub, unlocking new housing of up to 400 new homes and revitalising the heart of Nerang. 

The project is now progressing to the next stage. We are now set to seek a development partner through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process for the sale of the former Nerang Administration precinct to help realise the vision for a vibrant, connected and future-focused precinct.

An EOI is the first stage of a procurement process. It is designed to gauge market interest and capability and does not mean a development partner has been selected, a design has been approved, or construction is about to commence.
