Broadbeach Beach dog off leash area trial

We want your feedback on a trial of a new, timed off leash dog area at Broadbeach Beach.

Earlier this year, a consultation on a proposal to change Broadbeach Beach to a timed dog off leash area received majority support from respondents. As a result of this, we are now undertaking a trial of this timed dog off leash beach so we can further assess the environmental impacts of the change, and to understand how the local community feel about the proposed change.

The environmental and stakeholder impacts we are assessing as part of this trial include potential risks to the native flora and fauna, and potential risk to beach maintenance staff and lifeguards in the area. Both the outcomes of this assessment and the community feedback on this trial will inform a report for inclusion in the 2026 Animal Control Area Register amendment report.

The 3-month trial is running from 1 July to 30 September 2025, allowing dogs to be permitted off leash on Broadbeach Beach between the hours of 5am - 7am and 5pm - 7pm. The trial area is between Lifeguard Tower 26 and Lifeguard Tower 27, see map.
