Tropical Cyclone (TC) Alfred was one of the most significant weather events our city has faced in the past 50 years. As we continue repair and restoration work across the Gold Coast, we want to ensure we are best placed to help our community to return to normal as quickly as possible.
The City has a disaster management framework which has two key phases: Response and Recovery.
The Response phase is activated in the lead up to and during an event, which in this case was when TC Alfred was still far north of the Gold Coast. Our priorities in this phase are community safety (helping you prepare and stay safe), communication (keeping you informed), and restoring essential services (e.g ensuring water supply; liaising with key service providers such as Energex).
Once the immediate threat has passed, the Recovery phase is activated. We are currently in this phase in the aftermath of TC Alfred and are implementing the TC Alfred Recovery Plan.
We are seeking your input now for two reasons:
Help us ensure the TC Alfred Recovery Plan prioritises actions that will most address your immediate needs and have the greatest impact helping the Gold Coast community recover.
Help us understand how we can improve and refine our disaster response actions so that we not only recover but become more resilient to future weather events.
Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient Gold Coast for the future.
Please take a look at our survey below to read about the Recovery Plan and have your say.
This consultation is open until Tuesday 15 April 2025. We look forward to receiving your comments and feedback.
We appreciate your time and value your feedback.
