FAQs
What is the Runaway Bay Sports Precinct?
Runaway Bay Sports Precinct is one of the Gold Coast's major sport and recreation destinations. The precinct supports a wide range of organised sports, informal recreation activities and community facilities. It is used by local residents, sporting clubs and visitors from across the city and includes sports fields, recreation facilities, a skate park and an existing dirt BMX track.
What is the Runaway Bay Sports Precinct Master Plan?
The Runaway Bay Sports Precinct Master Plan is the guiding vision for improving sport, recreation and community infrastructure across the precinct over time.
The plan focuses on retaining open green space while delivering new sporting facilities, a community hub, a new skate and pump track, improved accessibility and safer movement throughout the precinct.
The proposed Runaway Bay Pump Track Upgrade was identified through the Master Plan and contributes to the broader vision for the precinct. This current consultation focuses specifically on the proposed pump track and its concept design.
Why are you consulting the community?
We’re seeking feedback on the draft concept plan to understand community sentiment on the overall design and gather input on key elements that can be influenced. Your feedback will help guide finalisation of the concept plan and future priorities.
What is being proposed?
The proposed pump track would replace the existing dirt BMX track with a modern facility designed for riders of different ages and skill levels, including beginner, intermediate and advanced users.
Why is the pump track being upgraded?
The project aims to provide a safe and enjoyable riding experience while supporting recreational riding, skill development and active lifestyles.
What feedback are you seeking?
We are seeking feedback on:
• the track layout and rider experience
• riding features and skills progression opportunities
• supporting infrastructure including seating, shade and drinking water
• accessibility, safety and user comfort
• whether some dirt BMX riding opportunities should be retained
• opportunities to improve the concept design.
Will some dirt BMX riding opportunities be retained?
We are seeking community feedback on whether some dirt BMX riding opportunities should be retained as part of the upgrade. This feedback will help inform future design considerations.
Will this be similar to Pizzey Park?
No. The proposed pump track is intended to provide a quality, district-level recreation facility for local riders and families. While it will include a variety of riding opportunities for different ages and skill levels, it has a different purpose, scale and budget to larger city-level facilities such as Pizzey Park. The final design will be informed by community feedback and balanced with site constraints, safety requirements and available funding.
How can I provide feedback?
You can provide feedback by completing the online survey on this page during the consultation period.
Consultation is open from 27 October to 16 November 2026.
What happens after consultation closes?
We’ll review and analyse all feedback received during consultation.
A community engagement outcomes report will be prepared, and the results will help inform future design development and delivery priorities.
