Have your say on the administrative amendments to the Animal Control Area Register – consultation now open

25 June 2024

City of Gold Coast (City) is responsible for animal control areas and is proposing administrative changes to the Animal Control Area Register impacting three dog off leash areas.

Local Law No. 12 (Animal Management) 2013 allows the City to designate or redact any part of a park, foreshore or bathing reserve as an animal control area. Read more about Local Law No. 12 (Animal Management) 2013.

After the completion of the amendment process in 2023, further information was provided by the community, prompting this proposed administrative amendment of the Animal Control Area Register.

Proposed amendments include:

  • moving existing dog off leash areas
  • removing an existing animal control area

The proposed administrative changes are based on suggestions from the community, councillor requests and information provided from key stakeholders. Factors such as environmental impacts, community safety and residential growth have been considered when evaluating each proposed change.
