No. Council has not decided to build a cableway. At its meeting on 28 July 2026, Council resolved to discontinue the City's investigations into a potential Springbrook cableway.

Council also resolved that a future private proponent may choose to undertake its own investigations and relevant and appropriate materials prepared in our investigations be provided to known interested proponents.

The City investigated whether a cableway could provide an environmentally responsible ecotourism and managed-access option for Springbrook while supporting environmental protection, accessibility, environmental education, conservation and Aboriginal cultural opportunities.

Ecotourism focuses on experiencing natural environments while supporting environmental protection, conservation, education and long-term stewardship of natural values. The investigations considered whether a cableway could support environmental education, research and citizen science opportunities while helping to manage visitor access.

The investigations explored whether a cableway concept could support conservation, regeneration and environmental stewardship outcomes that complement broader environmental initiatives occurring in the Springbrook area.

In May 2026, Council endorsed Springbrook as the preferred study area for further cableway investigations following a multi-criteria assessment of both Springbrook and Tamborine Mountain as potential locations.

Early planning included strategic assessment, preliminary technical investigations and targeted community engagement.

The following have not been determined:

• a private proponent (operator)
• a preferred corridor 
• a route alignment 
• landing point locations 
• project design 
• whether the project should proceed.

Should a future external proponent investigate the concept, these matters would be subject to further investigations and all relevant planning, environmental and development approval requirements.

No routes have been identified.

Corridor investigation areas were broad areas identified during the City's investigations to assist early planning and assessment. They did not identify a route and did not indicate approval of a future cableway.
