As the Gold Coast’s premium parklands, the Broadwater Parklands experiences some of the highest visitor rates in the city with over 3.7 million visitors annually. The Rockpools, a unique children's water playground, is the most popular and utilised asset within the parklands.
Now over 15 years old, it is experiencing regular failures and increased maintenance requirements caused by a combination of age, design and environmental related issues.
As a bespoke attraction designed for Broadwater Parklands, the water that creates the Rockpools as a ‘wet play’ area is salt water sourced directly from the Broadwater, then treated to pool safety standards via an underground filtration and pump room.
A combination of the harsh operating environment from corrosive saltwater, and the original design of placing the pump room underground with poor ventilation and intermittent flooding issues, has resulted in high annual maintenance costs, and the pump room and other mechanical elements failing and reaching end of life.
To design the initial concept, we are seeking feedback on the current state and what the community would like to see in a renewed Rockpools attraction.
To provide your feedback please complete the survey below, or visit us on site at one of the pop up consultation sessions:
