City of Gold Coast's award winning Active and Healthy program has been getting thousands of residents up, out and active every week for many years. There are over 300 free or low cost activities running weekly across the city all run by you, our valued partners.

It is a requirement that we report on the participant numbers of each Active and Healthy activity that we offer as part of the program. By completing participant numbers for each activity you run, you will help us understand how popular and engaged our residents are with our community activities. There are just a few short questions.

I would like to congratulate the team at Active and Healthy for their decision to invite Natalie to bring her Nia class to the Pacific Pines Community Centre. Great foresight!
After spending quite some time trying to find the right place for me, an older person with energy and flexibility issues, along with a loss of strength in damaged limbs from several falls, I finally found Nia. And it is perfect. Not only does this class help with the above, but also fills my emotional cup. It is fun, sometimes simply gentle and calm, caters to all ages, has great music, different levels of workouts for different people and fitness levels, and I love that I have met some wonderful people in the community who I may not have, had I not found this class.
Once again, thank you Active and Healthy team.
And thank YOU, Natalie. You are amazing - your heart is beautiful, you openly share that warmth with us all, and yet you never lose your professionalism; encouraging us all.

Nia dance class
I recommend everyone give Nia a go, men and ladies of any age. It is so much fun and a great workout that’s leaves you feeling free, uplifted and better about yourself and the world, which we all need in our lives. Natalie is a top class teacher with a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm. No dance experience necessary at all and it is a zero judgement zone. Highly recommended.

Nia with Natalie in Nerang on Fridays is great. It is a time for my well-being and to be physically active without the pressure and judgement of other forms of group exercise. You just do what feels right for you and focus on the movement. Please keep the classes going. Thank you.

After one session of Nia with Natalie I was hooked. It is truly good for the body, mind and soul and the benefits are endless. Nia is joyous, uplifting, energetic fun while toning and strengthening every part of you. I highly recommend Nia to everyone and anyone. I am so grateful to have found this beautiful teacher of this wonderful art 🙏♥️

I’m a newer attendee but you wouldn’t think it with how welcome I’ve felt! Nina is a joy to have as a teacher, her willingness to be wholeheartedly herself extends the same permission to everyone else. No need to prove anything, just show up, let your curiosity be bigger than your potential embarrassment and I promise you’ll find a wonderful community and sport.

This is a wonderful activity that I highly recommend as a place for health, smiles, and international exchange. Regardless of age, gender, or physical ability, anyone can enjoy it and return home revitalised in both body and mind. The instructors are truly exceptional.

“ Yoga today at the Labrador hub with lovely Tania….
The classes Thursday mornings are always varied. It seems like Tania reads the minds of the participants because the experience seems to always be geared to what people need — what I especially need.
Last week, I lacked balance moving from Downward Dog to Warrior One feeling wobbly, so I spoke to Tania following the class. Today, the class was chill, really Zen, working our bodies, minds and spirits in a gentler, yet active fashion, giving respite to my now age of 70 occasional wobbliness. In the space, you could just feel the energy of peace and serenity. I felt peaceful and serene, more so than usual in Tania’s classes.
The meditation at the class’ end, as always, was immersive with Tania’s music, her singing crystal bowl and her chimes. Last week, Tania let her Rainstick, an actual tall stick carved from a branch, accompany her to yoga and show itself off adding to the meditation sound bath. Her choice of music also acting as a reflection. 🧘‍♂️ Ommmmmm!

"I really enjoy Ross's Express fitness group on Thursday at Tugun. The class has a good mix of strength and balance exercises and cardio just to get the heart pumping. Ross adapts exercises to suit fitness levels or abilities, especially when easing back into training. I highly recommend coming along and joining in. Added bonus is it class is outside in the fresh air and the ocean is perfect for a swim afterwards. An extra class during the week would be a great option too."

“Over 2 years ago, I was searching for seniors classes on the Internet which lead me to find Active and Healthy GC for seniors run by Janet Thomas. She runs rehabilitative classes for seniors and also sit n stretch (chair yoga). It is an exciting, enjoyable and very social way to achieve great health results. I love it, I love being with lovely friendly people with common goals that make getting fit so much fun. Janet is a wonderful teacher, so much so I joined another of her groups also, with the same emphasis on cardio, strength, balance and memory (all the things us oldies need!) All the exercises are tailored to our needs and ability and Janets guidance keeps us safe. We’ve also started a coffee group and its lovely getting to know new “old” friends. I can’t thank Janet enough for her knowledge, expertise and care that she has given all of us and especially me. “I’m 67 and retired. We moved to the GC 4 years ago. I wanted to enhance my well-being in a warmer climate but my concern was I left family and friends. I wanted to meet like minded people who wanted to stay fit and healthy. I tried a few places which wasn’t for me. I found an Active and Healthy flier in my letterbox in the local area which was important to me as I don’t like driving. I hit the jackpot. I met Janet Thomas who was welcoming, informative and knowledgable. Her nursing background was a bonus. I have bouts of fibromyalgia, arthritis, a hip replacement, shoulder and back injuries. My aim was to strengthen and improve my flexibility which I have. Janet has been a joy to meet. She explained her own healthy journey and this encouraged me to start and control my own path. Our group often meet for coffee afterwards which has been a comfort. I wish I had started this exercise class as well as Janets sit n stretch many years ago. It has been so good for all participants mental health thanks to our amazing teacher who is extremely supportive.”

“I believe I owe my continuing good balance to having attended Janet Thomas' classes, twice a week for about 10 years!  Janet always includes some balance, it keeps my system "tuned up" and working like it should!  I don't think I'm ever going to "have a fall" like so many elderly people do. My muscle condition is also kept up due to her classes. The exercise makes us feel good and, combined with the wonderful social group we have built-up, ensures our future well-being! Janet is a pleasure to work for, is such a caring person and feels like another daughter to me and my wife. We look forward to our weekly sessions as a break to retired life!” Garth, 80
