Why is Winders Park being upgraded?

Winders Park has been identified for an upgrade to increase capacity of open space, enhance park user experience and safety and meet the demands of existing and future park users. The majority of existing assets are in poor condition, nearing end of life and require an upgrade.

Is the internal road being removed?

Yes, the existing internal road will be removed as part of the upgrade. The internal road currently provides parking and is also the main path for pedestrians and cyclists, resulting in poor pathway connectivity and pedestrian safety. Removal of the ring road is key to enhancing user experience and safety. It will increase the area of valuable open space and recreational opportunities along the Currumbin Creek foreshore. New car and trailer parking, with no net loss, and vehicle access to the boat ramp will be provided in the design.

Will there be a loss in carparking?

No. A new carpark will be included in the design providing no net loss in car parking spaces

What is happening to the existing boat ramp facility?

The existing boat ramp facility will be retained. New vehicle access and formalised trailer parking spaces will be provided in the design.

    When is construction?

Construction is anticipated to commence in 2027.

    What does the upgrade include?

The proposed park upgrade includes new car parking and vehicle access, pedestrian and cycle paths, public amenities, a consolidated play space, picnic and barbeque facilities, creek edge revetment treatments, and grassed picnic areas along the creek frontage.

    Will any trees be removed?

Yes. To facilitate construction of the park, selective removal of vegetation is required. The design consultants are working closely with the Project team, City arborists and ecologists to ensure we meet all standard requirements and that significant trees of high value are retained and protected where possible. Any vegetation removed will be offset with new tree planting of appropriate species.

How do I provide feedback on the upgrade?

The consultation period will be live from 8- 21 of July and you can complete an online survey via GC Have Hour Say. You can also come down to the park for a pop-up consultation session to discuss the project with City officers and provide your feedback.

A Masterplan was developed back in 2007, is this still relevant?

The project design team are aware of the masterplan completed in 2007. As it has been over 17 years since it was developed, it is being reviewed and revised to meet the existing site conditions and project requirements.

Is this plan the final design?

No, the City is only in the early design phase of this project and would like your feedback to help shape and inform the concept of this valuable waterfront park. Following this consultation, we will provide an update to the community to inform and consult on the final design.
