The Oceanway is a shared coastal pathway for walking, cycling and wheeling that stretches along the Gold Coast coastline. When complete, it would provide a continuous 36-kilometre connection from The Spit to Coolangatta

The project is currently in the strategic planning and investigation phase, focused on identifying and assessing options for the remaining missing sections of the Oceanway. 

We're seeking community feedback to understand views, values, priorities and expectations before any future planning or design decisions are made.

Anyone who lives, works, studies or spends time on the Gold Coast is encouraged to participate.

No. No final decisions have been made regarding alignments, designs, infrastructure locations and construction methods. The feedback from this consultation is intended to inform future planning and decision-making.

With two-thirds of the Oceanway already delivered, it is the remaining sections that are generally located in constrained coastal areas, and these require detailed investigation and planning.

A completed Oceanway will improve connectivity and support waking, cycling and rolling, making it easier and safer for people to choose active transport for shorter local trips. It will also help reduce traffic and congestion on local roads, improve access to beaches and parks, strengthen recreation and tourism and help protect against future coastal risks.

Community feedback gathered within this consultation will be considered alongside technical, environmental, engineering and regulatory assessments. It will help inform future planning, design development and future engagement activities.

This consultation focuses on gathering citywide feedback. We encourage everyone, including residents who live near the proposed future Oceanway sections, to share their views. As planning progresses, communities directly affected by specific sections will be engaged through targeted communication activities.

The Oceanway Completion Strategy seeks to balance community access, active transport and recreation outcomes with the protection and management of coastal environmental values. Future decisions will be informed by evidence-based planning and environmental assessments.

Environmental considerations are a key part of project planning. Future decisions will be informed by ecological investigations, environmental assessments, coastal engineering studies, technical advice and relevant approval processes.
