What is happening now with the Project?
The project is progressing to the next stage, we are now commencing an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to identify potential development partners for the former Nerang Administration precinct redevelopment.
What is an Expression of Interest (EOI)?
An EOI is the first stage of a procurement process. It enables us to assess interest and capability from potential development partners before progressing to later stages of the project.
Has a developer already been selected?
No. The EOI is the first step in identifying potential development partners. No preferred partner has been selected.
Has a final design been approved?
No. There is currently no final design for the precinct. Future design outcomes will be developed through subsequent stages of the project.
Has community feedback been used?
Feedback received during the 2023 and late 2025 community consultations have helped inform planning for the Hinterland Gateway Community Hub and the broader vision for the former Nerang Administration precinct.
Is the Hinterland Gateway Community Hub still being delivered?
Yes. Delivery of the Hinterland Gateway Community Hub remains a key objective of the project.
Will housing be part of the redevelopment?
Potential residential development forms part of the long-term vision for the precinct. Specific development outcomes will be considered through future planning, assessment and procurement processes.
How will traffic and parking impacts be managed?
Traffic, access and parking were key themes raised during consultation. These matters will be considered as planning and design of the precinct progresses.
What about environmental and koala habitat protections?
Environmental considerations, including biodiversity and habitat protection requirements, will continue to be assessed and considered throughout future planning and development processes.
Will there be further opportunities for community input?
The City will continue to keep stakeholders informed as the project progresses. Future engagement activities will be considered as the project moves into future stages.

What happens next?
Following the EOI process, submissions will be evaluated and shortlisted potential partners may be invited to participate in the next stage of the procurement process. The community will continue to be updated at key project milestones.
Why did the City decide to make changes to this area?
City staff previously based at the former Nerang Administration precinct were relocated to Bundall as part of the City of Gold Coast’s Accommodation Strategy. This created an opportunity to review the site and consider how it could best serve the community into the future.
How have we got here with this site?
In July 2025, Council endorsed disposal of the Administration Precinct and the reinvestment of sale proceeds into the new Hinterland Gateway Community Hub, to be constructed on the former Town and Country site in the precinct.
What is the Hinterland Gateway Community Hub?
The Hinterland Gateway Community Hub is a proposed modern, high-quality, multi-purpose facility designed to bring together recreation, arts and community services in one vibrant and connected location. Decisions regarding the specific elements of The Hub, will be decided at a later stage following community input.
Will vegetation be impacted?
The vegetation in this area is protect regulated bushland. No clearing is planned as part of the project.
Is the Nerang Library being relocated?
The Nerang Library is a possible consideration to be relocated into the Hinterland Gateway Community Hub and to be determined as the project progresses.
Is the former Nerang Administration precinct heritage-listed?
No. The site is not heritage listed.
Will the current Nerang pool be affected?
No. The pool is not included in the scope of this project.
Will public transport be considered?
Yes. Public transport access and connectivity will be considered as part of planning for The Hinterland Gateway Community Hub.
How will this project support the Nerang community?
The Hub reflects the City’s commitment to investing in high-quality community infrastructure that supports social connection, enhances wellbeing and ensures Nerang continues to thrive as a dynamic and inclusive community.
