Greenheart Master Plan survey 2024
Consultation has concluded
Help us shape the Gold Coast's largest outdoor recreation space - Greenheart
Greenheart is a 257 hectare site located in the suburbs of Merrimac and Robina, situated at the centre of the city’s urban footprint. The development of Greenheart is the largest open space and recreational facility project ever undertaken by the City. This development is a direct response to the Gold Coast’s significant population growth and the need to continue to provide high quality parks and infrastructure for the community.
The City of Gold Coast has prepared the Greenheart Master Plan which proposes eight unique precincts featuring a wide variety of open space and recreation facilities. We are seeking your feedback on what you think about the Greenheart Master Plan and each of the precincts.
How you can have your say:
- Complete our online survey and go into the draw to win one of five $500 gift vouchers (terms and conditions apply)
- Share your ideas on the Master Plan precincts, you can also vote for ideas submitted by others
Our team will be available at various locations during this engagement period, you can attend any of the Community Consultation Pop up Sessions if you wish to connect with the team directly.
Community engagement runs from Friday 31 May to Monday 1 July 2024.

fruitpuree15 days agochild-friendly toilets
Near the playground have toilet stalls that are child / family friendly like a lot of the malls and shopping centers do, for example with a normal-sized toilet and a lower one that is sized for pre-school together in one stall with enough room for a stroller to be rolled into the stall.
0 comment1Sam Harris20 days agoHybrid surfaces and multi sport playing fields
The City needs to fortify the sports field playing surfaces to enable grounds to utilised across all seasons. You need multi purpose surfaces to also cater for different sports on the one space and good lightning is required to enable use at nights and early mornings. City needs more oval spaces for growing sports such as AFL.

Everyone loves a train! Could be a fun way to get around the parklands rather than walking. It might even be cheaper and delivered sooner than light or heavy rail to the airport! You could also get a community group to run it (like The Men's Shed etc).

tamarajohansenabout 1 month agoActive & public transport
The council needs to collaborate with state over public and active transport strategies and initiatives during the planning stages of projects such as these. Are there adequate bike paths for locals to travel safely on to this destination? Wide shaded footpaths to encourage arrival on foot for those who live close by? What are the planned public transport connections. A fantastic initiative but needs to be greater thought into access, and impacts to local roads as opposed to just building car parks. The GCCC has a terrible track record in terms of public transport strategy and planning.

Shade sails or even better solar panels which create shade! The Pines Shopping Centre has an example
0 comment0PhemiRossabout 1 month agoToo much space dedicated to car parking
With events generally resulting in large volumes of cars entering and leaving the area, has consideration been made to encourage people to use public transport or active transport to attend events. For the excessive area of the event quarter that looks dedicated to cars, what percentage will be dedicated to safe and secure bike storage. Is there adequate access for bus and possible future expansion of light rail?

Renewed Wetlands

Peter Dawsonabout 1 month agoThere is a good mix facilities - they are all needed in a growing community. Prioritise habitat - the natural spaces should be increased.
Retaining and restoring habitat (Woody Hill, Wetlands, Wild Life Corridor) should be a priority. It takes the longest to establish and is at most risk of being omitted in the competition for funds during delivery. These areas should be increased.
1 comment3Sean Genders26 days agoGenuine wildlife corridors
While the councils plan to have 51% of green space has to be applauded, the problem that exists is that none of it links together. The plan has to be altered to create unbroken wildlife corridors, free of roads and human interaction, in order to ensure that wildlife is free to move around, from the hills to the sea, free from attacks by roaming, unleashed dogs, being killed by vehicles and all of the many other issues raised by human interaction.
0 comment1gcrp16 days agoNeed more information on the heritage impact
This is the biggest heritage site on the Gold Coast, and the information provided barely mentions anything about it. What’s the impact on both the European Heritage and the Aboriginal heritage of the site? It is very concerning that it’s not being properly considered.
0 comment2David Radloff29 days agoWildlife Habitats
Please increase the size of the wildlife habitat / natural areas in the project. The more wetlands, natural creek areas and tree woodland forests there are, the better off for both the wildlife and people!
0 comment14Allahabout 1 month agoA Dedicated Prayer Room
Robina has the 2nd largest Muslim population on the GC (after Labrador), so it would be great for the council to include a prayer room with ablution facilities for the residents to use at the park.

Mudgeeraba Creek

svangilsabout 1 month agoFamily friendly (flat) pathways to the western suburbs.
Truly connect green heart to the hinterland by providing shared paths to the western side of the m1 via overpasses or underpasses, in particular to Mudgeeraba Showground and up Worongary creek (green corridor) to help keep the creek clear of debris as well as provide a flat walkway for families and horses away from the main road. Recent flood events could be avoided in future.
0 comment0Beth Hall13 days agoThere is already considerable wildlife accessing Mudgeeraba Creek and it seems that there will be too much usage/pressure placed on it.
0 comment0dominictangabout 1 month agoPedestrian bridge clearance
Love the pedestrian bridge design. Assuming water sport is encouraged in the precinct, given the water sport pontoon, please make sure the bridge clearance allows safe passages for users.
0 comment0NevStrideabout 1 month agoFurther impact on flooding in Worongary Creek.
As this area is a floodplain for Worongary & Mudgeeraba Creeks it is a concern that this will increase the issues currently before council (ie petition) regarding more and more properties being flooded year on year particularly in Worongary Creek.

Razor9 days agoThe floodplain was mostly wet & treeless prior to European settlement full of Brolgas, raptors & swans a very foreign concept to the GC
Restore the site back to treeless wetlands rather than novel treescapes which exclude the birds of the wet open plains so characteristic of the Great Swamp of old.

0 comment0kpies11022 days agoFailure to plan for public transport
Why does this project have absolutely no consideration for public transport. Brisbane’s new parkland, Victoria Park, will have a busway next to it with two stations on either end, plus a new Cross River Rail station nearby at Exhibition. Greenheart needs to be connected with a brand new network of east-west busways across the entirety of the Gold Coast that was promised by Mayor Tom Tate several elections ago yet never materialised because of the council’s inability to fund its own projects, always expecting the state to cover the cost. We need a network of busways that have buses every 5 minutes connecting train stations to the suburbs to the coast, and Greenheart needs its own station, we cannot have parkland if everyone is driving to it. Cars are the past, transit is the future.
0 comment0Mirian Winter23 days agoSky observatory & Dog park area
I suggest including a sky observatory and a dog park in the Greenheart development. Sky Observatory: • Offers educational programs and stargazing. • Attracts visitors and enhances community engagement. Dog Park: • Provides a safe, fun space for dogs and owners. • Encourages social interaction and responsible pet ownership. These amenities will significantly benefit our community. Thank you for considering this suggestion.
