Proposed amendments to Local Law 9 (Parks and Reserves) and Subordinate Local Law 9.2 (Public Camping Areas)

The Council of the City of Gold Coast (City) invites you to have your say on the proposed amendments to Local Law No. 9 (Parks and Reserves) and Subordinate Local Law No.9.2 (Public Camping Areas).

The object of the Local Laws is to ensure that the operation of Parks and Reserves comply with appropriate standards of public safety, amenity and does not have an adverse effect on the surrounding community while protecting the environment and the facilities of parks and reserves. The purpose and general effect of the proposed laws are as follows:

Amendments to LL9 will:

  • Remove restrictions on the length of time for which a holiday permit can be issued.

Amendments to SLL 9.2 will:

  • Allow prescribed animals to be brought into a camp area, with prior written permission from the park manager and subject to certain restrictions.
  • Allow for campfires within designated areas and with permission from the park manager.
  • Remove restrictions on where a camp site may be situated and the number of tents/caravans occupying one site.
  • Update reference of ‘park supervisor’ to ‘park manager’.
  • Update reference from access ‘key’ to ‘entry device’.
  • Provide minor administrative updates to definitions and renumbering as required.

The City has conducted a review of the proposed Local Law and the proposed Subordinate Local Law for anti-competitive provisions in accordance with the requirements of the Competition Policy Guidelines prescribed by regulation, and no anti-competitive provisions were identified.
